Minerals for seniors

The organism of a senior requires a lot of minerals, which are very important to keep his systems in perfect shape. Minerals such as calcium, chromium and iron are vital for a long, healthy life.

Calcium is a mineral present in low fat dairy foods. Your best bet is with milk and yogurt. Some soy milks have calcium, but in this case the mineral is added as a part of the processing method.

Chromium is also very important. The problem is that it is not that common. Usually chromium is destroyed in refined foods, so if you want it, search for fortified cereals which contain chromium in the nutrient mix. Seniors must avoid consuming to much Iron. This is why some food supplements, designed for the elderly, don’t actually contain iron.

Magnesium is found in a lot of plants and animal foods, so it is very easy to consume it. But usually magnesium is present in very small amounts, this is why it is important you eat the appropriate amount.
